Mr Khao Man Gai Reviews

They are on 45th and 6th Ave on the weekdays too it seems (just got it today). I wasn't feeling their signature Option so I went with the grilled chicken set (#2), and it still is so tender and flavorful. It comes with a tamarind sauce that added to the flavor although I used it sparingly. Only 10 bucks for any set and cash only, but they have venmo and other options.

Phenomenal taste. We had the combo and chose the fried and roasted and it goes so well with the ginger rice. Also tried the mango sticky rice which was very good

Stumbled upon this food truck while walking around Manhattan. Food came out quickly and service was great as well. I ate the food in the nearby park, by the BookOff. Very fresh and amazing price! Can't beat the $10! Thanks again!

Just dropped by for the first time (embarrassingly) after a coworker recommendation, one of those places I've walked by 100 times and somehow never stopped it. And now it's going to be a regular in the rotation! I got their grilled chicken set (#2) and it was delicious - the chicken itself was amazingly well marinated and flavorful, the rice cooked perfectly to join with it - and man their sweet/mildly-spicy thai sauce they give you to go with it is pure heaven. The soup they give is very mild but pleasant. Their serving system felt slightly chaotic for a newbie, but it worked perfectly well, the woman working had a perfect memory and nailed people in order. Highly recommend!

I really debated between a 4-star and 5-star, but ultimately decided to go 5. Khao Man Gai is my absolute favorite meal. I live in Portland, home to the famous Nong's Khao Man Gai (originally a food cart, now with several locations). Nong's introduced me to the extreme perfection of steamed Khao Man Gai, served with soup on the side, and a tangy sauce. I am assuming that is probably similar to what is served here, when you select the "Steamed" option (they have 3 -- Steamed, Grilled, or Fried). However, when I arrived a bit later in the evening (around 8PM), they had sold out of everything except fried chicken. So, fried chicken is what I got. It was very good. I liked the fresh vegetables (cucumber, lettuce, tomato), and the garlic rice was very flavorful. The chicken was darker meat (perhaps thigh?), cut in strips after fry. It was served with sweet chili sauce, which was good, although I prefer the tangier sauce that Nong's has. I also enjoyed the broth -- it had some corn in it, which was different than what I was used to. I'd suggest trying the steamed, if it is available. I suspect that the chicken itself would be more moist, and of course it is probably healthier. Give this a shot. It is inexpensive, and quite good.

Great bang for your buck and really tasty! This food truck gets you a super flavorful lunch for $10! The fried chicken is always crispy, the rice is good and the sauce brings it all together. Not much to say other than give this place a shot if you need some tasty sustenance and are in a time crunch.

110% obsessed with this food truck that's a gem in this sea of heavy hitting Asian eateries in the neighborhood Mr Khao whips up a delicious meal that checks off many things for a fat Asian kid who gets the thrills of a good cheap eat: 1. No frills food that focuses only on authentic flavors 2. Affordably priced (~$10 for their set meals, got the ~$10 fried chicken combo with salad, soup, over ginger rice) 3. Decent portions 4. Each bite of that juicy chicken makes you wonder - why do people ever get fast food chicken? 5. Mr Khao only serves three 'main' courses - fried, steamed, and Grilled. *Like talk about selection paralysis here (You know its legit if that's all they really serve) No joke though, fried chicken Set #3 with ginger rice is crack (~$10). Big portions of juicy fried chicken, over a bed of zesty ginger rice. Love the savory dipping sauce that was super spicy and flavorful Chicken wasn't too greasy and was nice and crispy. You can also order the chicken separately for $4 each. Grilled, Fried, or steamed. They also do a few thai teas and coffee to wash all of that goodness down. *Venmo friendly, so for those who forget to bring cash the food truck here's got you covered bro.

I absolutely adore this food truck. It's some of the best Thai style chicken I've ever had with the most reasonable prices ($3 for the chicken if you don't want the rice and salad) The Thai Hainanese Chicken is super tender and totally comes alive with the soulful dipping sauce Grilled chicken is juicy, flavorful, and nicely spiced. Fried chicken retains a nice balance between a crispy outside and a tender, juicy inside. Highly recommend!

$9 for a hearty, delicious hot khao man gai meal in NYC in 2022?!?!! Such a super value meal!!! This is why I return again and again to this stall (and the main thing keeping me fed without going broke in NYC). Thank you Mr Khao Man Gai! Only con is that they're not always parked in the same location so you have to get lucky to find them.
